Is same as Porlock Loop in AA routes, just starting at Paignton
Very little traffic but watch out for the odd tractor. You can go on the link road, yawn, or this little gem. No contest. Some nice pubs with good grub thrown in for good measure. Yep, like this road a lot.
A very long run. Don't attempt it after a late night. 230ish miles of Devons best roads. Can easily pick up to route from others parts of Devon and make up your own routes. Notable places include Totnes, The Pig and whistle (Totnes to Newton Abbott road) The fisherman's cot, Bickleigh near Tiverton, Dunster, Lynmouth-Lynton, Woolacoombe, Bideford, Tavistock, and of course Plymouth Hoe. Would be best to make a weekend of it with a campsite stop, something my little group and I will do in the near future. ENJOY!
South West Coastal Run
Best rural routes
It's a nice evening why not
Nice variation of roads
realy good in nice weather. easy going
Magical ride mixing A + B roads
Great ride from Truro petrol station in the centre, out to St. Mawes via Veryan on the Roseland Peninsula. One of the best sections of twisty roads in the county, beware of the odd caravan (not as popular as the North coast but they are still about) and Tractors. Veryan is a pretty village with historic round house on the entrance and exit, pub, local shop and green. It's tight in spots and goes down to single road coming out and some gravel in road so take caution. St. Mawes is a Harbour village with great Pubs, Fish & Chips, views out to sea, Falmouth and not to forget the Castle.
Some nice twisty roads out of Bristol, the section to Easter Compton has some pinch points. Severn Bridge has a good little Cafe and views over to Wales and the bridge. Back road to Thornbury has nice twisty corners. The ride up the A38 to Saul Junction is a typical single lane A road but worth in when you get there. Lots of parking and a good food, tea and Coffee at the cafe.
Couple of hours run out. Recommend a quick detour to Hay Tor from Bovey
Bit of everything, but depends on traffic
70 miles. Mostly (90%) national speed limit roads with pretty villages to ride slowly through. Not many fast straights but SO MANY long fast bends and lots of testing twisties . Beautiful N Devon rolling countryside to catch the corner of your eye. Ride this at leisure for pleasure or fast for major grin! Avoids the major holiday fraffic roads so traffic is usually light and no end of overtaking places . Can't go wrong. Today the route took me 90 minutes which does not include a 10 minute stop at the petrol station in launceston(just around the corner from the mini -roundabout).
A roads to Land's End photo return the scenic way including the King Harry Ferry. Road surfaces vary. Petrol between Helston and Trelissick are all on the right hand side although the Falmouth petrol station is on a roundabout.
I threw in some back roads to check out good alternative if heavy traffic or roads closed.
Plenty of hazards to test what level you're at
Great little section to break up the A303, the extra distance is well worth the ride, the Three Daggers cafe and pub in Edington are a great place for non service station food and drink.
