This is the local Route to Nacimiento Fergusson Rd. About 20 miles. This is what we take when Highway 1 is blocked in both directions. This path is rocky and completely unpaved. There are slow speed sections where there are several "neighborhoods" where locals live they are very friendly just don't speed through their area. Kids live and play up here. There are two sections where you need to watch your speed. no worry's though signs are posted letting you know you're in a "residential area." The Road head starts at Treebones Resort driveway. Go left onto Will Creek Rd. just keep trucking until you come to a fork in the road about 8-miles up. Follow the sign that says Naci-Fergusson/south coast ridge road. Things to be aware of: This road is used by locals. They drive really fast! This road is only passable with high clearance vehicles. Small/large trucks motorcycles ATV's. Can be done in a small car but definitely not recommended.
Pfeiffer canyon bridge was still closed (5days to go) but this detour was totally worth it! Bunch of sections with narrow curvy roads with some surface damages, but almost noone on the road. Make sure to have enough gas to get through, as there are no stations for a good 30-40 miles

Beautiful 65 mile road winding from the valley floor up to 7500 ft, past Shaver and Huntington Lakes. Sweeping turns, plenty of vista points and the occasional section of hairpin turns. Highly recommend fuel stop before leaving Prather, CA. Many small shops and restaurants for the tourist season. Best run from mid-May to October.

If you're in Death Valley you have to take a ride down Badwater Rd and over Jubilee Pass. We started into DV from Beatty. If you haven't done it already, you can take the Beatty Cutoff Road toward Furnace Creek/Hwy 190. Not far past Furnace Creek is the turn off to Badwater. At 285' below sea level, Badwater is the lowest point on the continent. At Badwater Basin the road starts a series of giant sweepers, one right after the other. Eventually, it turns east onto 178, Jubilee Pass. This is a great ride with nary a car or a human in sight for 40 miles. Road surface isn't super smooth but it's super grippy and plenty good enough. Jubilee terminates in Shoshone at 127 where you can turn north back into DV, exit south to I-15 or hook up to 178 into Pahrump and onto Vegas. There's gas and food in Furnace Creek and Shoshone.
Entering Death Valley from the west via Hwy 190 offers some of the most awe inspiring scenery on the planet with a motorcycle ride to match! I started this route in Ridgecrest and made a little jog up 9 MIle Canyon Road because if you're in the area this is not to be missed.
Heading east from 395, Hwy 190 runs flat across Owens Valley with the Sierras in your mirror and the Panamint Range up ahead. Across the valley the road turns south and begins to climb. Things get interesting right away, and it pretty much doesn't stop until you get off your bike in Beatty. Taking in the vistas, the thought that kept coming to mind was, \"how did this happen??\" Amazing.
The road surface is smooth with nary a pot hole or tar snake along the entire route but for a few miles coming into Stovepipe Wells. That was also amazing. The area is nearly completely absence of LEOs. Gas is sparse but not too bad with stations in Beatty, Pahrump and Furnace Creek. Keep it topped off just in case.

Great loop through the hills with very light traffic except for the I-5 connector. Road surface is good, although watch for gravel after rain storms. Gas up near Hollister, Coalinga or hit up the truck stops along the 5. 25 is a joy to ride. Almost no straight parts, nice curves and only local traffic, but allow 90 minutes from top to bottom unless you stop for pictures. Recent resurfacing work on 198 between Coalinga and 25 and look out for the tree full of bras near the summit. Route is VERY rural but very scenic. Bring your camera. Lots of pull out spots for pictures or water breaks in the summer.
This route is out in the middle of nowhere, but beautiful scenery and a great example of CA backroads. For anyone traveling through the central coast, this route would take longer but is much more scenic than the 5 or 101 freeways.
Kings Canyon National Park has one roadway and this is it. The further that you get into the park, the better the views get. There are some really amazing hundred-mile mountain range view spots and some pretty significant roadside dropoffs, most with a guard rail or short wall. There are some turns but nothing dangerous or ultra twisty. The camping photo is about a mile from the very end of the road, where you must turn around and go back. GREAT campsites out here so pack a tent! Remember, it is a National Park, so there is entrance $ requirement.

This road is the only route east from PCH1 between Carmel and Cambria. From Hwy1 it climbs and twists its way up the mountain giving the most spectacular Big Sur coastline views imaginable. On a clear day, it is stunning.
For the most part, Nacimiento-Ferguson Road is a wide single track with switchbacks leading over the coastal range into a winding canyon to the Army Fort Hunter-Ligget. To ride on the base, you must show motorcycle license and proof of insurance. The road has no police presence unless you are on the base and are US military, not State.
On the base there is a great place to stay, the Hacienda and value for money, excellent bar, breakfast but no dinner. Bring some deli eats and there are microwaves in the rooms.
There is a cafe within walking distance (closes early), bowling and cinema plus a well restored Franciscan Mission. A bonus is one of 3 petrol stations in the entire Big Sur region and government prices per gallon the cheapest in the state.

Sweepers and a few tight curves, nice easy riding.
Even better if one rides the 10 mile stretch of Cachagua Rd that ties back into G16 - as this is a seriously nice piece of road.
G16 itself is marked down only from a poor quality surface rendering it a Goat Trail in places, but worth it for the turns and scenery. Police presence is usually only in Carmel Village and towards Carmel.
A sign tells you the speed limit is Warp 7 as you pass close to Area 51, the famously illusive UFO spotting place.
In many ways this road is a perfect bike trip, the atmosphere, the scenary and the climate make for a great biking experience, plenty of corners with mostly a good surface. There is sometimes a lot of tourist traffic though and long sections of the road where overtaking is not permitted mean it can be a bit frustrating for bikers. However still a great road. Check at the Elephant seals at the beach by Big Sur and Hearst castle (the basis for Citizen Kane) Enjoy
A 25 mile odd section that's very fast and flat, some good higher speed corners to be had here.
A serious climb up to Dantes View. Quite straight at first, then really tightens up during the climb to about 5475 feet. A great view of Death Valley from the top.
