Krásná cesta z Písku na Å umavu
One of the best roads near Prague
Lots of switchbacks and a couple of good places to stop on this pretty well surfaced, slightly less busy pass.
Fantastic scenery, and the highest pass in Austria. Open May to November. Can be busy - so probably best to avoid at weekends. Very popular with bikers, but cars too. You need a head for heights and have to like hairpins too. Some nice fast stretches too. Very few hazards except the road itself: the 29 hairpin bends. Visibility is good though, and there are hardly any side roads. Jusat watch out for people gawping at the scenery. 360 views from the Edelweissspitze - stop for food and a beer there as well. It is a toll road though. Euro 17 for a day/ Euro 30 for a 30 day pass. Their stated aim is to be the most biker friendly pass in the Alps! More info here www.grossglockner.at
This is a really nice relaxing ride with some great country views and twisty roads. There is even one road where it is so steep that you have to stand on your footpegs to get up the hill. You will go past a restored castle plenty of restaurants and pubs but only 1 petrol station so make sure you have filled up.
This is a ride when you just want to potter around and take it easy and slowly as the section through the forest has to be done, its a must its so beautiful with great new smooth tarmac that ends beside a lake so go for a swim!
It will take about 2 hours to do it excluding pub stops.
Sometimes called the Little Alpine route due to the short steep climbs and sharp Alpine bends there is plenty to keep you interested. You will pass though some quiet villages and forests with little traffic. A nice relaxing route especially in Autumn when the leaves are changing colour so take your camera.
Start off at Lipno in the Czech Republic then travel clockwise around into Austria. You will see some great scenery and views on the way. If the route is too long then you can shorten it by taking one of the small lakeside ferries, the choice is yours. You will be in the National Parks of CZ and Austria as this is a good winter skiing area which makes for some interesting mountain roads.
This is a nice weekend ride starting in Prague travel down all the quiet country roads to the largest lake in the Czech Republic which also forms the boundry with Austria. You will pass through Pisek which has the oldest stone bridge in Europe. Some of the roads are more like a racetrack with all the other bikers so be warned as the road camber changes a lot.
Lipno is a great lake for swimming or relaxing beside, with lots of hotels, great restaurants and bars or why not take a boat tour and have lunch on the boat. Lipno has lots of hotels and campsites right beside the lake. Spend the night at Lipno and take a different route home the next day.
Lipno is in the Southern skiing area of Czech Republic located in a national park with great scenery and areas to explore. It is a good central location for touring this area and venturing into Austria or Germany so you can visit 3 countries in one morning.
A nice rural country ride with lots of hills and blind corners, there is some great scenery along the way. Karlstejn is famouse for its restored castle mounted on top of a high hill. There is a bikers bar opposite the main car park where you can park for free and have a coll beer or coffee.
Watch our for police radar traps as it is a well known bikers ride where it can become busy with other bikers.
