D618 / Col De Peyresourde : Bagneres de Luchon - Arreau

Midi-Pyrenees > France > Europe
May 25, 2006 - 4 star route rating Motorcycle Road4.3

After stocking up on fresh fruit and other supplies in the open air market we left Bageneres de Luchon after a boozy one night stay in a fabulously cheap and comfortable hotel called 'Le Panoramicâ'.
It was a glorious sunny morning as we headed off for Arreau via the Col de Peyresourde. We would also be crossing the Col de Aspin later in the day but that's posted on another route here.
The D618 leaves Bagneres and winds it way through some great scenery and greenery and visits a few country villages on the way as it steadily climbs to the summit at some 1569 metres. The surface was in tip-top condition on our visit and the corners had everything you needed for maximum enjoyment on a Sport Touring level.
There were bends of all types but they could not detract from the beauty of the surroundings. There are far more spectacular places in the world but I'm thankfully easily pleased. I really enjoyed this route and would travel this road again should the opportunity arise. Hope you enjoy the photos

D918 / Col d'Aubisque : Eaux-Bonnes - Gourette

Midi-Pyrenees > France > Europe
October 20, 2005 - 4 star route rating Motorcycle Road3.8

Rises nicely on a good, wide surface with nice corners and stunning views. After Gourette the road continues rising but the surface deteriorates so it's not as nice to ride.

Rhone-Alpes (inc. Lyon) ... > France > Europe
April 26, 2005 - 4 star route rating Motorcycle Road4.5

This is one of the highest roads in the Alps and is a must see just for that reason. The road really becomes interesting as it rises to 2200m odd.

D618 : Fronsac - St Girons

Midi-Pyrenees > France > Europe
June 6, 2005 - 5 star route rating Motorcycle Road5.0

This is a lovely quiet route in The foothills of the Pyrenees. Great wooded sections and quiet villages and very little traffic. Take your time and take in the views. goes up to a low pass with spectacular views of the distant mountains. Worth carrying on the D618 to Tarascon if you are going that way.
