Good fun on a smaller bike. Tight roads with good views. No fast sweepers here... :)
A good alternative when you don't want to use the Motorway. First stretch from Gort is the nicest, nice views and the odd interesting stretch. The second half is gentle roads, nice scenery, with the odd Irish curve coming out of nowhere.
If heading East towards Dublin, get onto the Motorway just North of Tullsmore. Takes about 50mins more than M'way from Gort to Dublin!
Found this stretch almost by accident, but boy what a find! It has recently been resurfaced near Isona and is a joy with continuous nadgery and good cambers on most of the bends. Almost as good as the nearby C1311, but a different feel and landscape, though you will need to stop to look at...!
Can a road have too many corners? At about halfway along this route I found myself asking this. This surely must be one of the twistiest roads in Spain (and probably Europe). The surface is good but in places, the visibility is very bad, especially at dusk, when I rode, the sun was so strong that I could hardly get a move on :-) Additionally there are a lot of blind brows and no road markings to let you know whats coming up. Still enjoyable due to the concentration of corners, but care should be taken
On the outskirts of Codsall passing by The Crown at Codsall Wood & The Cross Guns public houses then crossing/passing over the M54 motorway bridge. T
he route takes in Country Roads with some Tight & Sweeping bends, with some quite swift sections of hilly undulations and then a toughish bend just before passing in view of Boscobel House (& White Ladies Priory - not in view from road).
Then soon a short climbing section toward an A road where you must then slow and take care when turning left entering onto A5 at Ivetsy Bank(opposite Bradford Arms Public House),Then its a downhill run through Weston Under Lizard past Weston Park Stately Home (a V-Festival site),eventually coming to a traffic Island before carrying on toward Telford, some nice country views of fields, etc You will finish soon before coming into the usual Roundabouts ,Lights and all of those measures used inmost built up areas.
Not too far from Wellington Market,M54, Telford etc
